The Sea and Cake – Weekend

The voice of Sam Prekop is the perfect instrument to the music of The Sea and Cake, a music that invites you not to worry too much. For over 20 years of career, the band based in Chicago have been producing flawless and distinctive rhythyms and melodies that will let your mind dance, drift and smile.

When to listen: driving. Both the city and the countryside could use much more music like this.

You’ll like it if you like: Tortoise, Stereolab and any good-vibes and elaborated-music band.

Dosh – Um, Circles and Squares

Dosh is a drummer. Dosh is an electronic producer. Dosh plays the keyboards. Dosh does it all, and he does it pretty well. Oh, and Andrew Bird gives him a hand on this one!

When to listen: to shake off the morning laziness. It’s easy to picture yourself being productive when you listen to this.

You’ll like it if you like: Au, Blockhead, Boards of Canada. Expect a bit more “drummish” and “hip-hopish” sound from Dosh.

Bibio – Lover’s Carvings

Bibio sounds like electronic happiness, flowers and basically like anything you’d associate with a wonderful day. The UK producer plays smooth guitar riffs over simple beats that will take you directly to the beach and put you under the perfect sun to get over the winter.

When to listen: On the beach! Alright it’s winter, and alright you don’t live anywhere close to the beach… Well, fill that bathtub then!

You’ll like it if you like: Yeasayer, James Blake, Toro y Moi.

P.O.S – Optimist

The world of rap/hip-hop/rhymes/callitwhatyoulike is a turbulent place for musicians. Seemingly trapped in the old times, every now an then this full-of-I’m-better-than-you’s conceives artists like P.O.S, who tries to bring some fresh air to the game and to break its rules. Give him a chance and you’ll be nodding to his beats in a minute.

When to listen: while walking down the street. You’ll never walk as calmly.

You’ll like it if you like: Rhymesayers, Blueprint, maybe RJD2.

Calla – Testify

When to listen: if you’re not (yet) into metal but feel like you could use some aggressiveness and energy to your ears. Aurelio Valle and his band are capable of the most destroying yet slow tracks.

You’ll like it if you like: Forget Cassettes, Come, Mogwai (their noisiest side).
